Project Management

PM prompts you to ask:

  • How do I track my projects?
  • How do I get accurate estimates?
  • How do I track estimates to my
    actuals for my projects?
  • Do I get accurate status reports
or are all my tasks always at 90%?
  • Do I have the right information to
make the right decisions about my
    projects?

Project Management (PM) is focuses on planning and tracking the projects that the organization is undertaking.  PM gives the organization the visibility and control needed to accurately gauge project status and make course corrections as needed.  Project Management in the application lifecycle is not solely based on the traditional PMP project management methodologies, but also encompasses the emerging agile management and governance practices.

Closely related to Project Management is Enterprise Project Management (EPM).  EPM allows a holistic view of projects including management of resource pools, matrix organizations and enterprise-wide project templates, standards and best practices.  Project Management within an application lifecycle can fit within an EPM strategy.

Project Managment and ALM

In the ALM process, after the project has been selected based on the goals of your organization, Project Management takes over.  PM is done all through out the construction and deployment of a system.  PM practices allow you to steer the project based on health metrics that are generated during the life of the project.
